This site is dedicated to promoting English as the common language of the United States of America. This is not about race or hate. A common language makes for a stronger nation!

There is a disturbing trend in our country - we are enabling non-English speaking people, particularly those who speak Spanish, to continue speaking their native language rather than assimilate into American culture.

It is all around us, from automated phone services asking us to declare a language (press 1 for English, press 2 for Spanish), to products and signs in our local stores - even in areas where the use of this other language is miniscule compared to the population.

During the peak years of Italian, German, or even Chinese immigration to the U.S. between the mid-1800's and mid-1900's, would it have been acceptable to advertise and conduct commerce on a national scale in any of those languages when the percentage of people speaking them was relatively small? That is what is happening in the United States today. Our ancestors who came here from other countries felt obligated to learn their new country's language - where is that obligation today??

The idea of the American "melting pot" stems from immigrants conforming and assimilating into society. Language is the common bond of a people, and this bond is fraying at the edges. There are already areas of the country where Spanish is the predominant language, and the English-speaking are foreigners in the own country! Remember the release of our National Anthem in Spanish early in 2006...

Are we allowing America to become a Tower of Babel, or will the day come when there is a call for "Spanish-only" after we reach the tipping point and it is too late?

Make your voice heard - in ENGLISH!
